Autumn’s Death, or What Did I Ever Do To You?

Why is it you must hate me so?

What did I ever do to you?

All must die to begin anew.

Just enjoy my colorful show.

Brilliant red, bright orange, and yellow

My death is delightful to view.

Why is it you must hate me so?

What did I ever do to you?

Try to enjoy my golden glow

‘Til at last my passing is through

For now you’ll just have to make do

Stay with me until I let go.

Why is it you must hate me so?

** I am not a fan of autumn, so I chose to turn the tables on myself, allowing the season to speak to me. In the form of a Rondel, this poem was inspired by the prompt at the OctPoWriMo challenge. Stop by and check out the truly amazing writing happening by poets from around the world!
