The Peacock

He struts about his domain

Drawing attention to himself

With his confidence

With his swagger

With the brilliant blue that he wears

No other blue is so bright

So vibrant, so bold

As the blue upon his chest.

He pulls a train behind him

Like a bride walking down the aisle.

He cries out, lonely for his mate

Raising his draping tail

Fanning it broadly behind him

Swirls of green accent the powerful blue eyes

On the feathers

He makes himself known

Setting himself apart from the others

Letting her know that he…

HE is the peacock for her.

(Today’s poem was inspired by a visit to the Virginia Zoo in Norfolk. All the images were taken with my Droid2.)
