NaPoWriMo

Today begins National Poetry Writing Month. I am really excited about this new challenge! While I did lose steam and end up walking away from my Variations on Pi, I have still been busy creating and this writing challenge fits me far better than anything connected to mathematics (more on that later).

Here is my first poem for NaPo – entitled simply… Words.

Words

Powerless, meaningless words

Just collections of letters strung together

Until we step in and give them life

Give them a voice

Even then words are just utterances

Sound waves that ripple then fade away to nothing.

Words

Powerful, meaningful words

Whispered, spoken, shouted, or sung

Attempts at communicating

Direction or emotion

Words

Only matter when they are

Heard.
